The Alchemy of Flow
The Alchemy of Flow captures the essence of Mary Anne's creative process, transforming natural fibres and threads into memories and moments in nature on her loom. The meditative practice of handweaving is an immersive process, allowing the weaver to sink into the flow and transcend time. Passing fibres over and under threads, row upon row, combining colours and textures to create an artistic expression of memories and longing. With an intentional focus on the freedom of movement and process, a state of flow is reached where time and worldly noise are almost non-existent.
This body of work will be exhibited in a space that has played a big role in Mary Anne's artistic history. Being the former location of both The Lunenburg Makery where she taught her first and many subsequent weaving workshops and Pentper Contemporary Gallery where her handwoven textiles were included amongst an evocative and impressive collection of curated art, she is thrilled to return to this space to exhibit and teach once again.
Lincoln Street Studio is an inclusive boutique movement studio with community offerings that range from wellness seminars to yoga classes, creative workshops and more, with a focus on mindfulness, movement and connection. The space has a deep heritage and rich character creating a serene ambience with a modern, gallery aesthetic that sets an ideal backdrop for Mary Anne's warm, textural art.
The Alchemy of Flow opens at 230 Lincoln Street with a reception on November 8th from 6-8 pm. Mary Anne will be available to show her work in the studio, share her weaving journey with you, discuss commission projects or answer any questions about purchasing the exhibited artwork. You might even catch a glimpse of her creative process as she works on some small tapestries.
