Introductory Weaving Workshop - January 18, 2020 Have a Yarn (Mahone Bay)
"Mary Anne encouraged me to just let go, have no attachment to outcomes, to have fun with the creative process. I was so proud of myself and what I created that day ... The space is always warm, inviting and nurturing, the perfect place to connect with other like minded humans and get some valued support and insight on the process of weaving from a beautiful, artistic soul"
Join Mary Anne Donovan, the House of Woolly Thyme weaver, for an afternoon of craft and creativity at Have a Yarn yarn shop. In this 5 hour workshop, you will learn to create a one of a kind handwoven wall tapestry, introducing you to the wonderful world of modern weaving in a warm and inspiring atmosphere located in the quaint, beautiful seaside town of Mahone Bay.
All materials will be provided, including an array of natural fibres in beautiful colour tones and textures. At the end of the class, you will have a completed tapestry to add to your home and have a good grasp of this meditative and expressive craft.
Topics covered in this class include:
- colour and design choices
- mixing textures and fibres
- warping your loom
- weaving stitches (tabby weaving, rya knots, soumak and hemstitch finishing)
