This woven landscape tapestry was created by hand in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia by textile designer and artist, Mary Anne Donovan. Inspired by the coves and beaches dotting the East Coast of Canada where she spends much time with her family, Mary Anne imagined the perspective of a safe shore from the sea, a different viewpoint from that which she typically stands in as she creates her handwoven seascapes.
Woven with locally produced natural fibres, mostly hand dyed, including silk, linen, merino, alpaca, cashmere, mohair, and slubby Blue Face Leicester mix, as well as Scandinavian wool, wool roving, cotton and more. The stormy seas are captured with depth and rolling textures while the sky creates a sweeping series of clouds that capture the essence of Atlantic Canada’s rugged and beautiful landscape.
This tapestry is large scale format, with woven proportions of 72” wide and 61” long, hung on a locally crafted modern walnut hanger measuring 76” by 4”. Total dimensions of this piece are 76” wide and 65” long.
